2017 Pre-War MG National Gathering

2017 - Yamba, NSW - hosted by our Queensland Colleagues

Murray Arundell outlines ideas for our next Pre-War MG Register national gathering under the auspices of the Gold Coast MG Car Club (GCMGCC)…

The event to be run October 13 - 16 2017 will be held using a similar format to previously held Pre-War MG National Gatherings in Bathurst.

There will naturally be some differences. The biggest and most noticeable being in response to suggestions from down south that the event be expanded to a three day event.

The idea being that as many participants will be travelling a considerable distance to attend, a three day event would make the journey all that more worthwhile. Additionally, being held across three days allows us to offer the attendees a full event while allowing plenty of opportunities for socialising and relaxing while enjoying their cars in the beautiful Clarence Valley region of NSW.

The event will be run under the auspices of the Gold Coast MG Car Club (GCMGCC). The GCMGCC will provide a CAMS permit for the event. It is envisaged that the GCMGCC will open a separate bank account styled as “2017 Pre-War MG Gathering” where all incomes and outgoings will be deposited.

They’re also providing us with a designated Treasurer for the event. This will certainly assist in easing the workload for the organisers. GCMGCC people will also be helping out with the planning of the touring routes as well.

Bathurst - PRE-WAR MG GATHERING WIND-UP

Dear Rally Participants.

Well Bathurst 2015 is over and hopefully it was worth waiting for. Two years between them seems a long time, but for the organisers it’s a busy two years and we are now grateful to be able to relax. With Sydney’s temperature yesterday at 42 degrees I was extremely grateful for the relatively cool weather we enjoyed on the Rally and most of us dodged most of the downpours.

At the same time most of you were packing up and heading home, a small group of us were at the Bathurst Base Hospital making our $5,000 donation to the Paediatric Ward. A very grateful General Manager and Paediatric Theatre Manager gave an outline of the pressure they are under with more than 100 children waiting for operations and the value to them of our donation. The hospital will put it towards paediatric theatre instruments, at this stage for tonsillectomy use. A photo is attached of the cheque handover in front of the old hospital façade showing from left to right: Rob Dunsterville, myself, Kylie Peers Nurse Manager for Theatres, Sue Patterson General Manager Bathurst Base Hospital, Gary Rush Mayor of Bathurst and Bradley Molenkamp Director Nursing and Midwifery with, of course, my F type special.  A worthwhile ending to the rally.

We are now in the process of organising the Post Rally Review and are on the hunt for good photos. Our photographer Jeremy Braithwaite has already set up a web site with hundreds of photos from the many thousands he took. However we know there are other outstanding shots out there so if you have any you consider worth including in the Post Rally book please send them on. If it’s only a single shot or two then feel free to simply email them to me. I have attached Jeremy’s email below giving instructions for accessing the web site and posting your photos:

Rob and I feel greatly rewarded by the privilege of doing two of these rallies, but as I said on the Sunday night: that’s it! It’s been an enjoyable experience and one we will look back on with glowing pleasure for many years. Now there are plenty of wonderful locations around Australia suitable for our Register Rallies to gather in and a large membership with plenty of experience and skill in organising such events. So let the proposals roll in!

Kind regards to you all
