J2 2517

Current owner: Peter McCormick, Qld.

Information: Built at Abingdon 28/10/32 as a 2 seater for the home market.

It was delivered to University Motors and sold to W.S. Nicholson of Northwood, England on 12/11/1932 and registered MV 76.

History: . J2517 was rescued from a breakers yard by Claude Hayes of Wales circa 1970. Claude undertook repairs but did not road register the car. Purchased by Peter McCormick from C.H. in September 2011. P.Mc. was an Aussie living in Ireland at the time.  The car was sent to Andy King for an engine overhaul which included the fitment of a Phoenix crank and rods, clutch replacement, carb rebuild and general re-commissioning.  It then relocated to Dublin, Ireland where the car was road registered and driven to local events, it was red in those days.

It had been fitted with an adjustable hydraulic rear suspension system comprising an adjustment knob under the dash labelled “Andre” with a scuttle mounted glycol reservoir all plumbed to the hydraulic rear dampers.  This system was removed and sold off.

The car later moved  to the USA in 2014 and restoration was initiated with Tom Metcalf at Safety Fast Restorations in Ohio, USA and completed in 2020, the colour changed to green at this time.

The car was awarded an Amelia Award at the 2020 Amelia Island Concourse de’ Elegance.

In 2025 J2517 it relocated from the USA to Australia when the owner and his family returned home.
