Current Owner: Mike Gosbell, N.S.W. (car in UK)
MMM No: 1424
Information: This car has been listed on this Register since it was formed in the ’60s. The owner/builder then and for the next few years was Bruce Leer from NSW.
The car was initially recorded as chassis number J2 3477. The car now resides in the UK and the selling agent has obtained a letter from the M.G.C.C. stating that the ch. no. is actually J2 3476 and that the car left the UK for Australia in 1934. Read the letter here.
That car was built at Abingdon 27/7/33 as a 2 seat roadster with swept wings for the home market.
History: The early entries to our register refer to the car as the ex-Todd Hunter race car. What form the car took is unknown. What we know from Bruce Leer is that he used the J2 chassis as a basis to build what became known as the JWF MG Milano 1500. The powertrain used TC sourced engine, gearbox and rear axle, through evolution it now utilises an XPEG block, billet crank, close ratio gears and BMC A-series diff and custom made brake drums.
The crowning glory for all this is a sleek Ferrari Monza styled JWF Milano fibreglass body.
After a long succession of owners and moving from NSW to Vic and then WA the car returned to NSW in the hands of Mike Gosbell in 2013. Mike raced the car at Winton a number of time before shipping the car to the UK in 2018.
The car has been for sale there for some years and was still available when this article was written in 2024.
There was an interesting story about the Milano M.G.s written by Graeme Jackson in the Newsletter July 2016. You can read it here.
You can read the sales blurb from 7-2024 which contains a lot more detail here.
