Current Owner: Allan Herring, Western Australia
MMM No: 1395
Information: Built at Abingdon on 15/3/33 as a 2-seater for the home market and painted red. It was first registered on 8/6/33 with number BRF 10.
History: Purchased by A.H. in 1972 from the well known Bone Brothers “Bone yard” in East London, the car was almost a wreck with another make of engine and hydraulic brakes.
The rebuild started in the late ’70s and took 14 years during which time a proper engine and gearbox were sourced and the body reconstructed.
The car was upgraded in line with J4 specification, drawing inspiration from the car successfully raced in the UK by Geoff Cole.
The main outward identifers of this upgrade are the doorless body and the front-mounted supercharger. This blower was purchased in the mid-70s from Clem Dwyer who used it on his fast P-type and motorcycles.
The engine has a modern steel crankshaft and rods to ensure reliability of the engine.
Since completion in 1992 the car has competed in many “Around the Houses” events, the Dutton’s GP Rally from Melbourne to Adelaide in 1992 and ’94 with a class win and placing and the 1993 and ’96 Classic Rally from Perth with class wins.
Allan was also awarded the Pre-war Register Kimber Award in 2023 for his contribution to the register.
