Information:

The Abingdon records show that PA chassis no’s 0481 to PA 0490 were all manufactured on the 27th of March 1934. These were exported “unassembled” with engines, 830AP to 840AP and the subject of this page; 0484 was one of that group.

Imported as part of a batch of 11 P- types by Lanes in 1934, the car we know as PA 0484 was sent to Britannia Motors (the Lanes distributor) to be assembled and bodied.

As with several cars in this batch, it appears that Britannia was not too careful matching Abingdon’s intended combination of engine and chassis, resulting in the engine and guarantee plate from PA0486 going onto this chassis. The car was refurbished after purchase by David Hall but he was unable to find a chassis number therefore it is not known how it came to be originally identified as PA 0484.

The car was bodied by Aspinall’s with a 2-seater body with doors and swept guards. It was first registered in September of 1934 with the number 196-527 and then later 210-615. In 1940 it was owned by Paul Flack and registered BN-527. Paul joined the RAAF and was sent to the UK for training. In John Barraclough’s book “When I grow up” he describes Paul driving the car to Sydney when he shipped out to the UK and gave the car to JAB to sell for him.

The car then disappears for many years, reappearing in the 1970’s in the ownership of Graeme Proctor. It then passed to Frank Horwood (1997), and Phillip Dadd (2005).  By 2011 it was back in Victoria with Ken Catlow.  Ken believed that the car was supercharged at one point with a Zoller supercharger. After K.C. passed away the car was sold to David Hall who completed a refurbishment.
