Information: Built at Abingdon in 1932, F1316 is one of two rolling chassis imported by Lanes Motors and delivered to Charles Aspinall to be bodied as a four seater fabric bodied sports car. The car carries trade mark Aspinall windscreen and hood bows sourced from American body parts suppliers. The sister car F1317 was bodied as a race car.
History:
First registered in Victoria in 1933 with reg. no. 11-953. Nothing else is known until it was acquired by J.D. circa 1968 from a woman in Fern Tree Gully. He held it until the late ’70s when it was passed on to N.C. who recommissioned the car and it was registered AKX-594.
Although the car had survived extremely well despite passing through many hands, it eventually received a full and sympathetic restoration by Charles McLennan which resulted in it being awarded Best in Class Pre-War at the 2013 Melbourne Motorclassica.
