Current Owner: Ed Farrar, Western Australia
MMM No: 2103
Information: Built at Abingdon on 26/4/33 as a 2-seater for the home market.
History: No early history known. During the ’60s and ’70s Geoff Coles was very successful in the UK with a J-type special often described as a J4. This car inspired a young Roger Cadogen who befriended G.C. and with his cooperation created a similar car using various bits including chassis J3295, an F-type gearbox, a P-type engine and 12″ brakes and a lightweight body styled on Cole’s J4.
In this guise it had its first outing at Brands Hatch in 1971, later gaining a Centric supercharger. After a couple of years the car passed to Roger’s friend and helper Dermot (Ted) Reynolds who continued to compete in the car until it was offered for sale via Barry Walker in 1977.
Around this time Ed Farrer in W.A. received an inheritance and his friend John Hunting suggested he should use the money to buy a pre-war M.G… Hence Mr Walker made a sale and J3295 arrived in Perth. Since 1977 Ed has competed in thousands of events and has only recently had to retire from driving due to ill-health.
There was an excellent story written about Ed’s exploits and you may read it here.
