 Midgets / / 773 views

Current Owner: Ron Killcullen, Western Australia

Information: Built at Abingdon on 19/10/33 and shipped directly to Lanes in Melbourne as a CKD kit.  Lanes dispatched the car to Aspinall to receive one of their door-less two seater bodies.

History: Information supplied by Matthew Magilton

On completion the car was registered 57 924 and sold to Britannia Motors and became part of their race team, driven by Colin Keefer with Ted Martin as riding mechanic. Its first race was the Winter 100 at Phillip Island in June 1934, one of five J2s in the Britannia Team. Colin finished in 6th place and was one of three from the team to finish which meant they won the Team Prize.

Keefer was a regular competitor in the J2 in local Victorian events:-

-1934 June LCCA Mountain Trial, Team Prize
-1935 March LCCA 24 Hour Trial, DNF?
-1935 AGP Phillip Island. DNF
-1935 Winter 100, 6th
The next known owner was George Notley in Strathmore, an image shows the car had been transformed; the Aspinall body had doors added, swept wings, trumpet horns and lots of bling.
George entered Rob Roy Hillclimb in November 1947 but with all the extra weight struggled up the hill in 53.47 secs.

The car next appeared in the hands of Jeff Scorer of Melbourne, entered in the 1950 V.S.C.C. Midnight Trial and shared in the Teams Prize.

At this time it was running a Ford engine (224746) and the registration number changed to WM 115 in 1951.
Subsequent owners include:-
– Keith Young of Sandringham, Vic. circa 1967.
– Graeme Bail (brother of Alan), Brighton, Vic. purchased 1968, restored to rolling chassis with the Aspinall body re-skinned in aluminium on the original frame but retaining the doors.
– Walter Magilton of Warrandyte, Vic. purchased as unfinished project about 1974.
– Ran at the last Templestowe Hillclimb 1987
– Active in M.G.C.C. of Victoria events until 1993.
